Rose’s Wrist Warmers from BBC’s Doctor Who, The Uncharted Version

Materials: 2 balls Peru DK Luxury Alpaca (80% merino, 20% alpaca, 10% silk) , 200 yards

Set of 4 DPNs, US size 4, or 36" circular needle (for magic loop, if preferred)

cable needle, tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge: 20 sts stockinette in the round = 3 inches

Directions:

Cast on 52 stitches. Work 8 rows of *K2, P2* ribbing. Start Diamond Cable Pattern on row 4.

If working on DPNs, at this point redistribute your stitches so that needle 1 has 21 sts (this will hold the

diamond motif), needle 2 has 15 sts, and needle 3 has 16 sts.  The Diamond Cable Pattern will continue on to needle 2, then work in stockinette stitch until there are 7 stitches left on needle 3, and work columns 1-7. You may wish to place a stitch marker on needle three to remind you where to begin the chart.

If working with the magic loop, you will want 28 sts on the front needle, and 24 on the back.   The front will hold the diamond motif and one side twist.  The back needle will hold the stockinette portion and the other side twist.  Work until you reach row 8 of the third complete diamond. On this round, you will place the stitch markers for your thumb gusset.

Repeat these 15 rows until you have 3 complete diamond patterns on your work, ending on row 8.

Right glove: Work 2 knit stitches past the first twist cable (start counting after the purl stitch that precedes the stockinette section which is the back of your wrist warmer), pm, K2, pm. Finish round.

Left glove: Work until 4 stst stitches remain before the second twist cable begins again on needle 3/back needle, pm, k2, pm, k2. Finish round.

Start working thumb gusset:

Row 1: Knit to first marker, slip marker, M1 by knitting into the stitch below, K to second marker, M1, slip

marker.

Row 2: Knit around.

Continue working in this way until you have 16 stitches between the markers. (This will take an entire

diamond repeat on the chart. You will now have 4 complete diamonds).

On next round, knit until stitch before first marker, and M1. Knit next stitch; remove marker. Slip first stitch

onto right needle.

Place 14 sts on waste yarn. Place slipped stitch back onto left needle and k2tog.

Continue knitting in pattern until you reach desired length. (I finished mine on row 13.) You may wish to

add a K1,P1 ribbing on the palm side in place of stockinette stitch at this point to avoid curling, though this

is a personal preference.

BO in pattern: (Note: This includes the seed stich pattern! If you knit the stitches as you see them within

the diamond, you will get a K1,P1 ribbing. Work them opposite as you see them to maintain a clean finish

in seed stitch.) Weave in ends.

Work thumb:

Pick up the stitches from the waste yarn, making sure to pick up 2 extra stitches in the gap to close the gap. K 6

rounds, or to your preference. Bind off, weave in ends. You may block them if you wish, but please check

to see what is the best method for the yarn you choose.
