Things I’ve been up to…

November 28th, 2007 · No Comments · Finished Objects, Works in Progress

After finishing two garments, I needed to downshift into simple, satisfyingly quick projects.

First up is a Calorimetry. I was intrigued by the idea from a knitter’s perspective, and as I often wear my hair up, it seemed practical too. I had TONS of yarn left from my Tilted Duster, so I came up with this:

It’s cute, I like short rows, and it will match my jacket if I need to wear both out at the same time.

Then I got the stunning idea of finally putting my Fleece Artist sock yarn to use. This is the Merino 2/6 in Mahogany. This colourway didn’t particularly inspire me in the hank or the ball, but my mother kept cooing over it. So I decided to make her some socks. The second is nearly finished, but here is the first one in progress:

Do you know what I think is the most stunning part of this sock (and yarn)? There’s no patterning. I have what seems to be a perfectly variegated sock. I *love* how it’s coming out. I may indeed need to buy more in a different colour for myself. I don’t like great stripey patterns, but I DO love colour variation.

Finally, I have a shameful secret. I was enticed by Lion Brand’s promise of having a full size afghan in only six hours. I bought the size 50 (25mm) needles, and ordered Cascade 220 superwash and cast on. Four strands of Cascade wasn’t enough, however – I wish I realised that the weight of yarn the project originally called for was bulky. I didn’t want to spend the time or the money ordering more 220 superwash, so I went down to the craft store and got a nice wool/acrylic blend to pad it out. It’s Patons Shetland Chunky, and it was perfect. So it’s 5 strands in total, and this is what I came up with:

I have also decided that I want to try doing entrelac, as the Forest Path Stole has caught my eye. So I decided to do the Garterlac Dishcloth to practice. I finished half of it last night, so no pictures yet. It’s so much easier than I thought it could be!
