Ok, I wanted to knit chevron socks. I had that Lorna’s Laces yarn I wanted to do something else with…perfect. So, I cast on and started knitting this:
Lovely…but I couldn’t get it over my heel. Even though my gauge was fine! So I begrudgingly tore it all out and cast on with more stitches. Too big. Ripped it out again. Instead of adding a full pattern repeat, I decided to change the pattern from knitting two plain stitches on each side of the chevron, I’d knit three, giving me a wider stripe. But now look what I have:

Pooling! Gahhh…it was so lovely and stripey before! But adding 12 stitches gives me this horrid mess. I’m considering going up or down a needle size and seeing if I can make it work.
So, in the meantime, I just needed to knit some mindless, patternless socks. And I found South West Trading Company’s Tofutsies (50% Superwash Wool, 25% Soy Silk, 22.5% Cotton, 2.5% Chitin (a fiber from shrimp and crab shells):

Let me tell you, this stuff knits up gorgeously. It’s delicious to touch…it’s going to be an amazing sock. It has a slightly strange smell, but I’m learning to live with it! The ball I have was wound VERY tight…very difficult to convince it to come out and be knit! I think it looks lovely the way it’s patterning so far. I’m not opposed to spiral effects.
But blatant pooling on one side or the other does not a happy Christina make.
