Finally, a proper update…

At long last, I’m back on the blog. I’m happy to say that I passed my MA, and have found a job after a month’s searching. It’s not my ideal job, but it’s money. I’m not complaining! So, here’s what I’ve been up to!

This is a swatch of Cascade 220 Quatro that I felted.
Swatch

It’s not entirely felted, as you can see, but I’m going to try doing this one again. It’s the first time I tried to felt anything. I did it by hand in the sink, alternating with very hot and very cold water; I used dishsoap as some suggested to open the fibres. I’d like to make a cover for my mobile, and felting seemed wise, as it would give it some extra padding. I bought it from a lovely woman named Lisa who owns one of the nicest LYSs that I have ever been in, called The Yarn Girl. She really liked my Doctor Who wrist warmers, and even had me sign a copy of the pattern! I was very amused, but pleased, by this!

Next, we have the grey cardigan that I’m making up as I go. It’s not got much further than the last time I posted it, but I had to take out a good inch and a half of the basketweave because, as my sister pointed out, it would be too thick as a waistband as it was.

You can see the carpet through it…I’m not sure if that’s my flash being extra bright or the fact that it shows that it’s a loose knit. I wanted it to be loose-ish anyway, so I’m not complaining on that! I changed my mind about doing the basketweave stitch for the entire back because I thought it would be too busy and too bulky. So it’s sort of an alternate to ribbing. I haven’t decided how I’m going to do the front yet. I’ll get there. Meanwhile, I get to do stockinette till I get to the armpits and THEN I need to decide how I’m going to do the decreases for a set in sleeve.

Now these are the gloves I’m making for my cousin, Elizabeth.

I’m making these up as I go as well, but you can see the woven cable on the back of the hand. I also decided to go with a twisted ribbing as it looked quite dainty for a little girl. I’ve only gone up to where I *think* her little finger will start. I really want her to try them on before I start that because undoing it would be nightmareish in my opinion. I’m using the same yarn I used for my wrist warmers as it’s gorgeously soft. Good stitch definition too. I love how puffy the cables are!

So, that’s me for now! I’m going to be busy for the next couple of weeks with this stuff. In between working my new job, I hope to get a lot accomplished! I promise to be more faithful on the blog now too. Not just for my (few) readers, but for myself too. :)
